Phi Kap, K A Psi Collaboration
(2003-11-17)

After the UT – Texas Tech game, the brothers of Phi Kappa Theta and Kappa Alpha Psi co-sponsored a party at 5101 Martin Ave. This marks the first time that PKT has co-sponsored an event with a National Pan-Hellenic Council member in as long as anyone can remember. We had an amazing turnout and really packed the place. Thanks to all the members of K A Psi who came out the next day to help clean up, and those who came early to help set-up.

Alumni Weekend

The Alpha Pi Chapter hosted its Alumni members and their families for a pre-game party before the UT- Texas Tech game (Hook’em Horns!) on November 15th. The Alumni Chapter held a meeting in which they discussed the development of a scholarship award for qualified actives, and they made preliminary plans for this years Hotter than Hell Golf Tourney. The Active chapter would like to thank all the Alumni who attended and thank all those that provided the wonderful food.

Parent's Weekend

This past weekend the University of Texas hosted thousands of parents for this years annual Parent's Weekend. We were proud to have hosted parents of our brothers for a BBQ dinner after the awesome football game on Saturday. Thanks to everyone who participated and special thanks to Br. Dan Nguyen and Br. Mario Castillo for making the food arrangements, and of course a big thanks to all our Moms and Dads!

Go Commando!

On the evening of October 17th we had the pleasure of mixing with the ladies of Phi Beta Chi, and the name of the event was Go Commando! and the theme was camouflage. Just about everyone came dressed to kill, literally. Special thanks go out to Br. Andrew Lowry, Br. Ryan Fant, Br. Mario Castillo, Br. Jason Kovacs, the entire Beta Iota AM class, and any other brother that worked hard to get everything set-up for the event. Phi Beta Chi's Social Director, Hilary McAllister, sent the chapter a letter of thanks to the chapter to express how much they enjoyed the night. The pictures and T-shirts should be here soon as well.

OU Weekend

Well OU Weekend has come and gone once again, and whether you went to the game or caught it on TV it was a sad day for Longhorns everywhere. However those of us that made the trip up to Dallas still had a great time. A large group of the fraternity stayed at the Red Roof Inn just off of I-35 and Empire Central. The T-shirts are in and if you have not picked yours up yet, please contact Br. Mario Castillo to get it. Special thanks go out to Br. Andrew Lowry for taking care of the accommodations, Br. Ryan Fant for hosting those without tickets to the game, and Br. Mario Castillo for taking care of the T-shirts. Hopefully we will have better luck next year, Hook'Em Horns!

Beta Iota Class in Full Swing

On October 5th and 6th the brothers of Phi Kappa Theta initiated six gentlemen in to the next Associate Member Class of the Texas Alpha Pi Chapter, the Beta Iota Class. They will be holding regular education meetings at 5101 Martin Ave. on Tuesday evenings at 7:30pm, and have already elected officers.

Delta Gamma Anchor Splash

The fraternity participated once again in Delta Gamma sorority's annual Anchor Splash event, and we are proud to announce that the Phi Kaps took home the 3rd place overall trophy and won the Penny Wars! These past two weeks were full of philanthropy activities hosted by the DG's that all fraternities participated in to help support the Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired. Thanks to all members and alumni, who came out to support the Phi Kaps throughout the week and at Anchor Splash. A special thanks goes out to our DG coaches and the members of the team. Great job guys!

Phi Beta Chi Big Brother Program!

Rush Fall 2003

White and Gold Semi Formal

This past Monday the Phi Kaps celebrated the long semester with our annual Spring White and Gold Semi Formal. The night started out at 7:30 pm with dinner in the beautiful Sunset Room of the Oasis. After dinner and conversation Brother Phil Butler presented the associate members with thier Associate Member paddles each holding the three letters earned and nicknames of each Associate Member. Next, Andrew Lowry presented his big brother, Brother Craig Zahn with a commerative Big Brother paddle. The night carried on with an awards ceremony. Here are some results:

After the awards the night continued with a presentation of a plaque as a thank you from the Beta Theta class to the Alumni for thier support in the Casino Night. This was followed by the swearing in of the new officers.
Finally, the night at the Oasis ended with a Power Point Slide show with pictures from the semester's activities. After the Oasis everyone piled onto a party boat and the Phi Kaps and thier dates partied the night away. Thanks to all of those involved in the success of this semester. Always look back for new improvements to the site and other events coming up for the Phi Kaps in the summer.

Phi Kappa Theta and CFO Alumni Reunion
(2003-04-26)

In celebration of the Founders' Day of our fraternity, April 29th, 1959, the active chapter and Alumni from previous years of Phi Kappa Theta reunited with Alumni from the Catholic Fraternal Organization (CFO), which was the original group before PKT formed at the University of Texas at Austin. The Reunion took place on Saturday, April 26th, 2003 at Brother Harlen Winter's ranch in Burnet, Texas, and several generations of Phi Kaps had a great time together with good food and good conversation. The event was a huge success and we would like to thank Harlen, as well as Brothers Mike Hanley, Ruben Longoria, Charles Beurschinger, and Walt Fletcher for all their assistance in making the reunion possible. Beta Theta AM Program Completed

Congratulations to the Beta Theta Associate Member class of Spring 2003 for completing their AM Program and becoming Neophytes of the active chapter. The new Neophytes are Arturo "Javi" Arce II, Luis Escalante, Andrew Lowry, and Paul Sowada. We look forward to you all doing great things for the fraternity as active members next semester and in the years to come!

Greek Week Three Peat

For the third consecutive year and the third year since we have been able to compete, the Texas Alpha Pi Phi Kaps have won Greek Week. Congratulations to all of the undergrads for thier hard work. We are always a big part in raising money for the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric Aids Foundation. Additonally, if you see Brother Adrian Gonzalez, Jr. thank him for organizing all the brothers for every event. The Phi Kaps were paired with Alpha Delta Pi, Sigma Delta Lambda, and Pi Beta Phi and we thank them for all they did in supporting us in our win.

Beta Theta Casino Night
(2003-04-07)

The Beta Theta class is holding a Casino Night this Friday, April 11th, 2003, from 7 pm to 12 pm at The Village apartment complex Clubhouse. The Village is located off of Riverside on Crossing Place road, to the left side of the street before the Melrose complex. The games for that night will be Blackjack, Texas Hold 'Em Poker, Craps, and Roulette, and it will be $5 to deal in each time. Players' winnings go towards earning tickets which will be entered into a raffle at the end of the night for a Playstation 2. All members, Alumni, and friends are invited. We hope to see you there!

NCAA Basketball Tournament

Congratulations to the Texas Men's and Women's basketball teams for making it to the Final Four NCAA Basketball Tournament. Historic events like these give us yet another reason to be proud to be Longhorns! Despite the losses in the each of their final four games, we are excited to have made it this far in the tournament and we look forward to a fantastic next season. Hook 'Em!

Phi Kaps Gone Camping

The Phi Kaps went on their bi-annual Camping trip tonight with the Beta Theta Associate Member class. We held it at Pace Bend park on Lake Travis in south west Austin, and all that went had a blast! We had a nice campfire, roasted weenies, built tents, and had a range of activities througout the night. Look forward to pictures posted in the Photo Database in the near future.

Greek Week 2003

Sunday March 23, 2003 is the official kickoff for Greek Week 2003 with a 5K race at 8 AM, followed by members of the Greek Community chalking the Speedway strip at 3 pm with messages of hope and inspiration. Greek Week is an annual event comprised of all the members of the Greek Community at UT Austin to help raise money for the Elizabeth Pediatric Aids Foundation. Phi Kappa Theta has participated since 2000 winning every time we have competed. We are going for the three peat this year, so wish the Greek Community and the Phi Kaps a lot of luck on achieving all of the goals of the week. Phi Kap BBQ Fundraiser

The Phi Kaps are selling BBQ plates for $4.00 on Saturday, March 22nd, 2003 with proceeds going to the Children's Miracle Network. We are preselling tickets, and you may contact our Fundraising chair, Arturo Lecuona, for details. The BBQ location will be on the UT campus at Hargis Hall on MLK near I-35, and delivery in Austin will be available as well. Please help us in this great cause and buy some BBQ!

Beta Theta MEB

Congrats to Javier, Paul, Luis, and Andrew on successfully completing their first Membership Evaluation Board (MEB). The brothers of Phi Kappa Theta are extremely proud of your hard work and dedication this far. Keep up the good work!

Omega Awards

Thanks to the Public Relations committee and several other contributers, the Omega Awards packet for the 2002 school year was successfully completed. We look forward to this years ceremony in April and hope that Phi Kappa Theta walks away with several awards. Lets keep our fingers crossed because we all know we deserve them this year!

Dinner at Zio's

LOVE was in the air at Zio's thanks to the Beta Theta class and their rendition of The Sweet Heart Song. Dinner this year was at Zio's Italian Restaurant and as always, each Phi Kap was prompt and well dressed with their dates.

Valentines Cocktail Dinner

AM Lock In

Phi Kap Friday

Spring 2003 Rush

Welcome back from the break everyone! We're excited to return to school since today begins our Rush for Spring 2003. For the next two weeks we have many great events planned to meet and hang out with gentlemen of UT that are prospective members for our fraternity. Quo Vadis!

Quo Vadis is here! Our first big meeting of the semester will be on January 11th, at 8 AM in Room E1.010 at the Texas State Capitol Building. Remember this meeting is absolutely mandatory for all members and it has been planned since last semester, so make sure you are there. Alumni are welcome as well and we expect to get a lot of great things out of this meeting as we plan the new Spring semester!

Winter Formal!

On December 8th we will have our annual Winter Formal. It will be at the Hyatt Regency on Barton Springs at 7:00 pm. We can't wait to see everyone all dressed up, and have some fun.

Beta Eta Activation Party

We had a repeat of the first successful Ice Bats fundraiser today. Just as last time everything went well and we had fun while making money at the same time.

Poker Night

We had our biannual Poker night on Saturday night, the 16th. Phi Kaps from far and wide come to play poker and hang out with their brothers. This time was no exception. Congratulations to Dave Rainey who was our Poker champion.

Glow in the Dark Party!!!

Our Glow in the Dark Party on Saturday, November 9th was an incredible success! Jalisco's was absolutely packed with Phi Kaps, friends of Phi Kaps, and everyone else looking for a good time. Informal Rush Event at Players

We took the opportunity on Wednesday, the 6th, to meet some of our potential members for next semester. We all went out to Player's to enjoy some good times and good burgers.

Website Release!

Brotherhood Football

Despite the rain and cold temperatures, the Phi Kaps went out to Zilker park once again to play football. The day was meant as a getaway from campus and just to have fun and barbeque after football. The weather did not permit the barbeque but the football went off without a hitch.

Fundraiser at Austin Ice Bats Game

On Friday, we had our second fundraiser of the year. We made our money by selling programs at the Austin Ice Bats hockey game. It was a heck of a lot of fun, and on top of it all we got paid to do it!

Halloween on 6th Street

Tonight, the associate members and some of the active chapter went out to 6th street to celebrate Halloween. The Associate Members dressed up as Ronald McDonald and friends. They were a big hit downtown.

National Leadership Consultant visits the Alpha Pi Chapter

Today, David Bolgrein,a leadership consultant from Phi Kappa Theta Executive Offices, started his four day visit with us. He will be observing our practices and our protocol through Sunday. He will also be meeting with all of our committee heads to find out where the future of the Alpha Pi chapter is going.

Parent's Weekend Dinner with the Phi Kaps

The weekend of the 26th and 27th of October was the annual Parent's Weekend at the University of Texas. We took the opportunity to get to know everyone's parents by all dining at the Spaghetti Warehouse downtown. We had a great turnout and even had to get more tables than we originally planned for. It was a huge success. Thank you to all the parents that made the trip to Austin, it was great getting to meet all of you.

La Palapa Karaoke Night

We started off the weekend with a bang at La Palapa Karaoke bar. Many Phi Kaps took this opportunity to show us their "vocal skills", and as always it was an incredibly fun outing. Even our Associate Members took the opportunity to show off their class talent.

Texas vs OU Weekend

Despite the fact that UT lost the football game to OU on October 12th, we still had a great time in Dallas over the weekend. Every year us Phi Kaps take a trip up to good old Dallas to cheer on our team and this year was no different.

Phi Kappa Theta Alumni Weekend

The Central Texas Phi Kappa Theta Alumni association had their annual alumni weekend this weekend in Austin. It all started off friday night at Brother Adrian Gonzalez's house with a welcoming reception for all almuni. Many of the alumni then took the chance to see the UT football game on Saturday. For those who didn't go to the football game a party for the game was held at Brother Robert DaVila's house. After the game everyone regrouped at Brother DaVila's house for the final official gathering of Alumni Weekend. Everything went very well, and all who were involved had a good time.

Phi Kappa Theta Ritual

Congratulations to the Beta Zeta class who went through ritual on September 28th and are now full Active Brothers in our chapter!

Credit Card Fundraiser
(2002-09-25)

We had our first fundraiser of the year on Wednesday the 25th, credit card applications. Campus Fundraising helped us set up the details and by 6:00 pm on wednesday we were ready to go. Phi Kaps were all over the campus trying to raise money so that we may maintain our reputation for having affordable dues. Many more fundraising events have been planned for later this year.

The Biannual Phi Kappa Theta Camping Trip

It was an exciting weekend for everyone who went on the camping trip. We had a lot of fun, and got more acquainted with our new associate members. We trekked out to Pace Bend park and stayed right on Lake Travis. We could not have had better camping weather and even a few of our alumni came out with us.

Football with the Phi Kaps

Our semester kicked off with our traditional football game putting Active brothers against the new Associate Members. As always we had a fun time and the experience allowed all to begin the bonds of brotherhood. This gives us a chance to get to know our associates and to see who we want on the Phi Kap IM football team.

Associate Member Initiation

The initiation for the new associate members took place on Sunday the 8th of September. Now officially associate members of Phi Kappa Theta, they look forward to their first semester full of fun, brotherhood, and always, hard work.

Bid Day
(2002-09-06)

Today was our day to extend bids to those men who we want in our brotherhood. The four men who received bids were Adrian Gonzales Jr., Paul Guitierrez, Ruben Walter Pena, and Craig Zahn. After officially extending bids we celebrated with our new associate members.

Broom Ball
(2002-09-03)

The pinnacle of rush events, Broomball, went off incredibly well this year. Every semester we play broomball at Chaparral Ice in Pflugerville, and it is always full of fun and surprises.

Beginning the Fall 2002 Semester

As the Fall 2002 Semester approaches we find the Active Chapter of Texas Alpha Pi trickling in to attend Quo Vadis. This event showcases many Officer and Committee reports in order to hammer out the whole semester in just one day!

Highlights for the semester look to include a Sorority Powder Puff Football game to benefit the Austin Children's Hospital, the local outlet for the Children's Miracle Network. Also, as it is one of Phi Kappa Theta's pillars, the Social calander sees a Football themed Party with everyone wearing Burnt Orange to show thier Texas Pride! Look back for more details as the semester progresses, and as always, contact each Committee Head with any questions.

A Message from the Phi Kaps...

Hello all Alpha Pi Phi Kaps, Alumni, and guests! As the summer comes to a close the new President, Jose Luis Guerra, his executive council, and several other brothers get ready for the ensuing fall semester. Plans for a great Rush period, a new exciting Philanthropy event, several new social opportunities, and many brotherhood activities bid for a solid and refreshing semester.

Our Quo Vadis, Latin for Where are we going?, quickly approaches. Here we will finalize our calander and meet back up with all of the brothers while trading summer stories and good laughs. Check back for the exact time and place.

Finally, our great Central Texas Alumni chapter has an exciting event coming this weekend! The Hotter then Hell! Golf Tournament will find brothers from past and present coming together to raise money and share memories and good times. Good luck to all teams and let's hope those old guys can keep up!

Texas Alpha Pi Chapter Installation

The Phi Kaps are getting back into the final leg of the semester after spring break! As relaxing as it was we find this week with easily the most important event in our local history since we began again in 1997. What great event might that be you ask? Well, this weekend, March 22 through the 23rd holds the Texas Alpha Pi’s Installation. Installation is a great event where we officially receive our Chapter Status from the National Fraternity. The weekend sees a casual dinner of all you can eat BBQ at a local smokehouse and a formal banquet to hold the rechartering ceremony. Please be Proud to be a Phi Kap in this weekend. It marks a stepping stone into the future; hold it dear. To all the brothers, Congratulations. To all the Alumni, thank you for you support. To the Executive Officers, thank you for you involvement. Clap Alpha Pi, the future holds us in high esteem.

Alumni! Remember that installation is quickly approaching. You may find information on the event under Social: Upcoming Events. Feel free to find the contact information for our Executive Board or Alumni Board and send an email with any questions you might have concerning this huge event! Remember this is the re-chartering for our chapter here at the University of Texas so make sure to make it out and meet all the current active and associate members!

Our IFC Representative, Paul Floyd, turned in our Omega Award Application today. These awards are given to chapters who excel in aspects of Greek life. Feel free to contact Paul if you have any questions on putting together any award packets for your chapter. Wish us luck!
